Young Scholar Programme for Biology

Organized by Department of Biology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and
Science Education Section, Curriculum Development Institute, EMB, HKSAR

The Young Scholar Programme for Biology (YSPB) is one of the popular events organized by the Department of Biology, CUHK and the Science Education Section, EMB. YSPB aims at providing summer learning opportunities to both secondary school teachers and students to enhance their teaching and learning, as well as to bridge the gap between the tertiary and the secondary school sectors in biology education. This year, YSPB 2007 will be held on 17th to 19th July, consisting of both seminars and laboratory workshop. The seminars will be performed in the mornings at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK, providing updated information in three different exciting areas in biological science: ¡§Biomedicine¡¨, ¡§Ecology and Evolution¡¨, and ¡§Food and Nutrition¡¨. The speakers will share knowledge and experience with the audience, assisting them to develop scientific thinking and skills in solving teaching and learning problems in biology. In the afternoons, the laboratory workshop ¡§DNA Identification of Shark Products in Trade¡¨ will be carried out at the Biology Department, introducing the recent advance and applications of molecular biology in daily livings. Training will be provided to teachers in the first day so that they can teach their students in the following days of the workshop. Both the teachers and students can together taste the real practice of molecular biology and know how it can be applied to improve our living quality.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you come and join us and share our knowledge and happiness at the YSPB 2007. Hope to see you there.

Dr Lawrence CM Chiu
Convenor, YSPB 2007
